May 23rd - 27th - Sorting Natural Service Sire groups
Breeding Season 2016

It's been another great week here in South Dakota! The weather has been warm with quite a bit of moisture. The great weather made the long job of sorting Natural Service breeding pastures much easier!

After AIing all three of our spring calving bunches of cows we sort each large group into their natural service sire breeding groups. To do this we have lists made up ahead of time indicating what sire each cows will be bred to. We gather the bunch of cows that we will sort on that day and then pick a sire and start sorting. We make sure each cow is paired with her calf and that both get to the right pasture! It takes organization and meticulousness to get the job done right! Once a sire group is completely sorted we walk the group to their pasture. The bulls are turned out into their pasture of cows after all of the groups have been sorted. They will stay in these small groups until we pull the bulls. At that time we will bunch the cows back into larger groups until preg checking!

Here are some sorting pictures!

Made it to the pasture!
