It's the start of the breeding season here at Bieber Red Angus! Long before we start mating, synchronizing or AIing we are getting ready for the next breeding season by deciding which bulls we are going to use in our program. We are always looking for bulls that will mate well with the different cow families in our program! Once we have decided on bulls that we want in our breeding program we start procurring semen, walking rights and/or purchasing the bull.
After we have decided on our bull battery we mate each heifer to an AI sire and a natural service sire. When mating we take into consideration each heifer's pedigree, EPD's and phenotype. We then choose a bull from our battery that will complement her, and create a calf that will advance our and our customer's program! We sit down and talk about each heifer's pedigree, cow family history and EPDs. It's a long process but we feel strongly that thoughtful, intentional mating creates the best calf crops.
Once each heifer is mated to an AI sire and a Natural service sire, we sort the heifers into AI sire groups. This makes breeding day go faster and causes less stress!
Presley was at the ranch this Weekend and help Papa Craig Bieber and Craig Howard finish all the heifer matings!
With the groups all sorted and ready to go we are all set to start synchronizing. We are putting in CIDRs today! Check back next week for pictures!
